2011 Nonfiction Unit: During this year's study of narrative non-fiction, students learned about eleven different Americans. Using similar techniques that they learned during their literary essay unit, students gathered details from the text about their traits, the obstacles they faced, how they changed throughout the story, the role of the secondary characters, and the setting. From this, they created Bio Poems which they then created into Vokis.

2010 Nonfiction Unit: During our unit on narrative non-fiction, students learned about ten different Americans. Some were quite familiar, others like Matthew Henson and Marian Anderson were new to the students. Using the same standards as we did in the realistic ficiton unit, students looked at the characteristics, struggles, and the role that the supporting characters played in their lives. The next challenge was for the students to create storyboards, integrating these standards, and learning the newest version of iMovie to create these book trailers.
